Paparazzo bestraft om achtervolgen prinses Caroline
A French court on Monday gave a photographer a four-month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay a 3,000 euro fine for a 1996 car chase involving Monaco's Princess Caroline.
Luc Gourselas, who works for the SIPA agency, was convicted of invasion of privacy after snapping pictures of Caroline as she drove her car from the tiny Mediterranean principality to Saint-Remy-de-Provence in southern France.
Gourselas was riding in a car driven by his wife Isabelle, who was ordered to pay a 2,000 euro fine. In her complaint, Caroline said the car drove for several kilometers just mere centimeters from her own. The car carrying the photographer then passed her own, only to suddenly slow down in front of her, the princess said.
At the time of the chase, Caroline -- who was suffering from health problems -- had a shaved head.
The Nice criminal court also ordered that the photographer pay for the publication of the ruling in the popular French magazine Paris-Match, which ran the pictures along with several Italian and German magazines.
Caroline received a symbolic euro in damages and more than 400 euros in court costs.
